USC Football, 1968-70

Always one of USC’s most popular football players, Bob Chandler lettered for three years at wide receiver (1968-70). He captained the 1970 Trojans, when he led the team in receptions, and still ranked 17th on USC’s career receiving list. He played two Rose Bowls and was named the 1970 Rose Bowl Player of the Game after catching the winning 33-yard touchdown pass, the game’s only TD. The Trojans won that game 10-3 over Michigan.

Bob was a seventh round draft choice of the Buffalo Bills in 1971 and started there for 9 years through 1979. He then continued his career with the Raiders for three years (1980-82) including an appearance in Super Bowl XV. He caught 370 passes for 5,243 yards and 48 TD’s during his NFL career. Later he became a television and radio broadcaster.

In 1999, Bob was posthumously inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring “exceptional individuals who have distinguished themselves, their sports and this university with their unparalleled commitment to excellence. Through their leadership, dedication, and natural talent, each and every one of the inductees has been instrumental in propelling his or her sport one step closer to perfection, sharing the ideals upon which USC was founded.”
