is awarded to individuals in athletics who have been
inspirational and courageous in facing the challenges
of cancer on a personal level.

__Scott
Hamilton, Olympian and professional skater, demonstrated
courage and enormous generosity in sharing his struggle
with testicular cancer with the public in order to educate
and inform. Scott Hamilton is clearly a champion among
champions and one of the most respected athletes, performers
and commentators of our times. |

__Rod
Carew, who, along with his daughter Michelle, inspired
the prayers of of a nation and made millions of people
aware of the critical need for organ donors. In April
1996, Carew's youngest daughter, Michelle, lost her
battle to leukemia. In a valiant effort to save his
daughter's life, Rod Carew demonstrated the same tenacious
and heroic qualities that earned him a place in the
Baseball Hall of Fame. Rod Carew called Bob "a prime
example of courage in life."

__Eric
Davis, major league baseball star with the Baltimore Orioles,
courageously retuned to the Orioles lineup after undergoing
surgery for colon cancer in June 1996. While still receiving
weekly chemotherapy treatments, Mr. Davis played the final
weeks of the regular season and was heroic in the American
League Championship Series, the fifth game of which was
highlighted by Eric's game- winning home run. "When I
was diagnosed with cancer…my dreams didn't stop," Davis
said. "And with the grace of God, my dreams did come true."
